ARTS FOR CONSERVATION

Mural Paintings

In the pursuit of sustainable landscapes, we use different forms of artistic expression to break-down communication barriers among diverse and sometimes contrasting groups.

Intu had been facilitating mural paintings for international events and conferences for several years. She painted murals at the 2009 World Climate Conference in Geneva (Switzerland), the World Parks Congress in Sydney (Australia) in 2014, COP 21 of the Climate Change Convention 2015 in Paris (France), the World Conservation Congress 2016 in Hawaii (USA), Sustainable Solutions Festival in Bali in 2017. After COVID19 – in 2022, we restarted our participatory arts activities here in Bali and at Yale in New Haven (USA). More recently, we were invited to facilitate participatory mural at the TED Conferences in Vancouver (Canada) and TED Countdown Summit in Detroit (USA) in 2023.

During these events thousands of congress participants attended the conference. More than 150 people participated and contributed in the making of each mural. We have had up to 35 different nationalities painting together.

The murals measure between 5 meters X 2.5 meters to 7.5 meters x 2.8 meters. They are now kept in different institutions in Geneva, Canberra, Paris, Hawaii, Bali, and New Haven.

Special thanks to our sponsors: IUCN, Parks Victoria, FAO, Health and Climate Foundation, Samdhana Institute, Global Greengrants Fund, Rights and Resources Initiative, UNDP International Indigenous Peoples’ Forum on Climate Change, Land Tenure Facility, TED and all of the participants and painters in the making of these murals. We would like to see more people in our future participatory mural painting events.
